Blowfly Prevention
Blowfly strike is a serious disease that affects sheep of all ages. It is caused by the larvae (maggots) of the greenbottle fly (blowfly), which infest and damage the sheep’s flesh. Early prevention of blowfly strike is crucial for managing and reducing health and welfare losses.
BLOWFLY WATCH
As part of the Blowfly Watch campaign, Elanco, in partnership with NADIS, developed a blowfly risk forecast map that predicts the emergence of blowflies and therefore the level of blowfly risk across the UK. Elanco also offers blowfly watch email alerts, providing sheep farmers with localised insights into the level of blowfly risk in their farm’s area, helping you prevent blowfly strike in your sheep through early preventative treatment.

Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs) are not insecticidal and work by preventing the harmless first stage blowfly larvae developing into the damaging second and third stage larvae (maggots) that are responsible for flystrike.
