When did you start at Mole Valley Farmers?

I joined the Mole Valley Farmers Graduate Scheme in September 2022; prior to this I completed a Level 4 Agri Business Management Apprenticeship at Bicton College and then spent two years working on a farm. I was fortunate to secure a position in the Feed Customer Service team at Mole Valley, which I started before the graduate scheme began. This helped, as I’d already started to get to know and understand the business.

What did you enjoy about the Grad Scheme?

I felt well-supported throughout the process. Tom, who manages the scheme, was always available for guidance and conversation. It was a great opportunity to gain exposure to different areas of the business and clearly understand the objectives for each stage. I particularly appreciated the flexibility to spend more time in the areas most relevant to my career goals.

The scheme opened different career pathways. When I joined, I thought I wanted to become a Nutritionist but after exploring the different roles, I realised this wasn’t the path for me. Since completing the Grad scheme, I worked as a BDM for nearly two years and am now training to become an Agronomist. Looking back, I see the BDM role as an important stepping stone toward my current career path.

What other Learning and Development training programmes have you been on?

I’ve completed my AMTRA and Sales Training and really enjoyed being part of the Developing Agri Professional Network (DAPN), as it gave me the chance to connect with colleagues from across the business who were also starting out in their careers. I’m now close to finishing my FACTS training and will be starting the BASIS course in January, which runs until September 2026.

What do you enjoy about working at Mole Valley Farmers?

I get to work with different colleagues, farmers, and suppliers who have incredible knowledge of the agricultural industry. Over time, I’ve built strong relationships with our farming customers, and working with them is something I really enjoy. Whether it’s running trials, testing alongside suppliers, or exploring new processes, every day brings something exciting. There’s so much innovation in this industry and being part of that journey is what makes this role so rewarding.

What will a typical day look like in your new role?

I’ll have my core customers who I deal with on a day to day basis, visiting them and walking their fields, having technical conversations around their future plans, and discussing recommendations. I’ll also be collaborating with colleagues within different business areas around silage quality and forage sales. Unlike my role as a BDM where I visited 8-10 farms a day, with this role I envisage visiting 2 farmers a day. During the winter, it will be a lot quieter than springtime when it will be extremely busy.

What do you do in your spare time?

I have to stay busy, otherwise I get bored!

I spend most of my evenings either at the gym, swimming or socialising. I love taking my dogs out and spending a lot of time at the beach, and in the summer I love to paddleboard.

I’m a member of Honiton young farmers and I’m currently an East Devon Agri Officer which means I organise judging days, can sort educational visits to farms and I’m currently organising a trip to Ireland for the end of April for a study trip for the members. I’m hoping to sort for 18 of us to go which will be a lot of fun.
