What roles have you had in your time at Mole Valley farmers?

I started with the company in August 2015, working Sundays on the tills at our Yeovil store. Before long, I added Saturdays in the yard office and later moved onto the Customer Service Desk on weekends. That experience opened the door to a full-time role as a Customer Care Team Member. From there, I completed my Supervisor Apprenticeship, which led to a Shop Floor Supervisor position and eventually an Acting Assistant Manager role in Frome. I continued to progress, taking on Assistant Manager roles in Gillingham and now Dorchester.

What opportunities have you had since working here?

I’ve had the privilege of working across 12 of our sites and stores, collaborating with different teams and taking on a variety of challenges. One project that stands out was supporting multiple locations during the rollout of a new system—it was a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the business and learn from their perspectives.

Completing the Supervisor Apprenticeship was another pivotal experience. Spending time in different departments gave me a solid understanding of how the entire site operates, which laid the foundation for my move into the management team. My favourite part of the apprenticeship was the project work; I used that time to analyse reports and discrepancies, which ultimately led me to design an IT solution to improve processes.

I recently took part in the Emerging Talent Development programme, which was a fantastic opportunity to connect with head office colleagues and put faces to names, as well as build relationships with people from stores across the country. I particularly valued the focused sessions on behavioural and operational management—they were clear, practical, and extremely useful for applying in real-world scenarios with my team.

What do you enjoy the most about working here, and what does a typical day look like?

I really enjoy the variety—no two days are the same. One moment I might be handling admin, then serving customers, completing quotes, or working out in the yard. I love seeing regular customers and building relationships with them; that’s probably my favourite part. As for a typical day, it really depends on the time of year. Health and Safety checks are the most consistent task, but beyond that, things can vary a lot.

What inspires you to come to work every day?

Being part of a big family at Mole Valley Farmers. I want the business to succeed. The business has provided me and so many of my colleagues with opportunities to develop and in turn since becoming a Manager I’ve helped people progress with their careers. Someone gave me a break years ago and I want to continue doing that for others.

What do you do outside of work?

I run my own aquarium business. I started out selling aquatic plants, and at one point I had nearly 30 tanks at home. About 2 years ago, after becoming a father and realising how much time I was investing, I decided to take a different approach. I bought a 3D printer and now create and sell a range of aquarium accessories—from plant holders to ornaments and more.
