Improving farm safety together

Take A Moment

Farming is a hazardous industry. In the last ten years almost one person a week has been killed as a direct result of agricultural work.

Mole Valley Farmers launched Take A Moment back in May 2018, with the aim of supporting and influencing the industry to make the changes so vital to improving its safety record.

Why Take A Moment matters…

  • The Health and Safety Executive recently published their annual report on workplace fatalities. Despite the number of deaths recorded in the last five years having dropped, (18 less than last year and nine less than the five year average), 21 people still lost their lives
  • Agriculture remains the industry with the worst rate of worker fatal injury; eighteen times higher than the average rate across all industries
  • Transport related incidents, such as overturning vehicles or being struck by moving vehicles, were the main cause of death
  • Around half of the workers killed were aged 55 years or older. The five-year average shows that the number of workers killed aged 65 and over is more than double that of any other age group
  • The youngest person killed last year was a four-year-old child.
